Recommended activities for retirees when visiting North Myrtle Beach

There are plenty of activities within North Myrtle Beach and surrounds to keep retirees busy. Whether you are planning on visiting for a weekend, or plan to snowbird down to North Myrtle Beach, here are a few of our favourite activities that you should consider:

Beaches: Windy hill beach is our favourite beaches. There is ample parking and it’s absolutely gorgeous to to see either the sunrise or the sunset from the beach. Dolphins can often be seen swimming by in the early evening.

Golfing: Barefoot Resort has four Championship golf courses to choose from, the Norman, Dye, Love and Fazio courses. Other great courses to try which are nearby are: Tidewater golf club, the Dunes Resort Golf course and TPC Myrtle Beach. When golfing on one of the Barefoot Resort courses, visiting the Putters pub after your game is a must as there is a very vibrant and social atmosphere.

For nature and art enthusiasts:Although a bit further away, Brookgreen gardens, in Murrells inlet, is a beautiful botanical garden, filled with thousands of statues. Founded by the Huntington family, the garden is home to the most exquisite art and it is beautifully surrounded by incredible flowers. Take a leisurely stroll or have a picnic in the gardens to relax on a sunny afternoon. Directly across from Brookgreen Garden is Huntington State Park. The park has a beautiful, untouched beach, where you can walk for miles and feel like you are at one with nature. On the lagoon side of the park, you’re able to see aligators and an array of birdlife so pack your camera and head out for a fun afternoon of nature.

Fishing: North Myrtle beach offers an array of fishing options. You can fish off many piers, or rent a boat at Murrels inlet Marsh walk. (www.beachhouseboatrentals.com)

For those who would prefer to go out into the ocean, there are also fishing charters available such as Reel Action fishing charters or North Myrtle Beach fishing charters.

Dining and Entertainment: Barefoot Landing has a whole host of exquisisite restaurants to choose from. Depending on the time of year, there are also loads of activities that are arranged. If you enjoy live theatre, the Alabama theatre puts on shows every evening and is renowned for their incredible performances. If you are more into Jazz, then you would need to look no further than the House of Blues, which is also located in Barefoot Landing.
